Marketing

This part is way easier than you think it is.

The bad news is that marketing is required. Without any marketing, hardly anyone will know your book even exists. The good news is that you don’t have to use every marketing channel available, nor should you try. If you don’t want to promote yourself on social media, don’t. If you don’t want to appear on book podcasts, fine. If you don’t want to create your own YouTube channel, by all means, forget it. You can achieve great things by doubling down on your strengths or burn out and achieve mediocrity by spreading yourself thin and tackling everything.

Where We Can Help

First, we can share resources with you that cover the various marketing channels available and how to use them, and second, we can do some of your marketing for you. And since it’s less labor-intensive than editing, it’s less expensive.

We can set up and run highly targeted advertising campaigns on Amazon and Facebook so that the readers who are actually interested in your book will know it exists and will be directed to your book’s product page. If your writing is strong, you hired a professional editor, the cover is genuinely eye-catching, and the book description (blurb) is compelling, Amazon ads and Facebook ads can get you the visibility you need to get noticed, sell copies, earn hard-won reader reviews, and get (free) word-of-mouth marketing going. Authors who do everything right and publish lots of books can practically print money using these tools.

You don’t have to spend a lot on this. Running advertising campaigns can be one of the least expensive things you do, and the more books you publish, the better your return on investment since you won’t need to advertise all your books. Advertising sells the first book, the first book sells the second book, the second book sells the third book, and so on.

There’s a modest one-time setup fee, and optimizing and maintaining campaigns doesn’t require much effort, often as little as two hours per month. Don’t let anyone charge you thousands of dollars per month for this kind of service.
